Boucheron

by Julie MIALET 09 May 2024

The Jeweler that took on la Place Vendôme

Founded by Frédéric Boucheron in 1858, it's one of the pillars of French jewelry.
This brand first specialized in watches. Frédéric Boucheron created the first wristwatch. He also invented the self-winding movement GP 4000, in collaboration with Girard-Perragaux.
In 1867, the house won major prizes at the Universal Exhibition in Paris for the Feuillage necklace, commissioned by Marie-Louise McKay, an American heiress.

First installed at the Palais Royal, he was the first jeweler to open a shop at la Place Vendôme in 1893, number 26, in Countess Castiglione's residence.
After winning more awards at various world exhibitions and thanks to the growing success of the brand, Boucheron opened, at the beginning of the twentieth century, several shops around the world, including Moscow, St Petersburg, London, or New York.
The son, Louis Boucheron took over the family business and helped other jewelers to get started, like Pierre Sterlé who worked in their workshops.

In 2000, the company was bought by the Kering Group (Pinault).
Today Boucheron has 55 stores around the world. In 2011, Claire Choisne became its artistic director.

MYTHICAL PIECES

The Point d’Interrogation Necklace, created in 1879 won a Grand Prix at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. It's still a part of Boucheron's collections today, the general shape remaining the same.

La Cape de Lumière is made entirely of gold and set with an 81 carat citrine. This piece is on the border between jewelry and clothing. It's a tribute to Frédéric Boucheron's parents who were drapers.

SUCCESSFUL JEWELRY COLLECTIONS

The “Quatre” Ring is one of the greatest success of the Boucheron house. It's a superposition of four bangles made of yellow, white, and pink gold. The engraved patterns may vary as well as the number of diamond-paved bangles.

The Serpent Bohème collection is a signature of the brand. Created in 1968, Serpent Bohème has been reissued many times and is still a must today.
