If you're looking for a green stone, don't forget about tsavorite garnet !
Garnet is not only a stone with a dark and dull red colour, it is also a stone with a very interesting variety of colours.
When a grossular garnet is green, it is called tsavorite. This comes from the name of the deposits in Kenya's Tsavo Park, where the stone was originally discovered.
There's other green garnets that are called demantoid garnets.
Tsavorite has an intense, brilliant green that is even more beautiful than emerald ... and it is extremely rare (it is estimated that there are 200 times fewer of them than emeralds). It is therefore a private and rather expensive stone !
Its distinctive, intense color comes from vanadium and chromium (which also colors emerald). It is a calcium-aluminum silicate with a hardness of 7 / 7.5 on the Mohs scale.
Tsavorite garnet is a rare stone.
Most gems do not reach two carats and stones over three carats have very high prices.
Tsavorite garnets can be found in Kenya, but also in Tanzania, Madagascar and Quebec.
Tsavorite garnet can be mounted on rings, earrings or necklaces.
Tsavorite garnet can be found in many of Tiffany’s creations, it's one of their emblematic stones or on the “Acte V” bracelet signed by Louis Vuitton.
And don’t forget, all stones are fragile! Even diamond….
To determine the quality of a stone, colour is the most important criteria.
Tsavorite is a variety of garnet, and is therefore traditionally associated with those born in January and the Aquarius zodiac sign. It can also be gifted on a 2nd wedding anniversary.
