Looking for a green stone, think green Tsavorite Garnet !
Garnet is not only a stone with a dark dull red colour, it is also a stone with a very interesting variety of colours.
When it is green in colour, it is called Tsavorite garnet, because the deposits are located in Tsavo Park in Kenya, where the stone was originally discovered.
Tsavorite (from the family of grossular garnets) has an intense emerald green colour, even more beautiful than emerald … and is extremely rare (it is estimated that there are still 200 times less than emeralds), therefore confidential and quite expensive!
Its so particular and intense colour comes from the addition of vanadium and chromium (which colours the emerald), it is a calcium and aluminium silicate with a hardness of 7 / 7.5 on the Mohs scale.
Tsavorite garnet is a rare stone.
Most gems do not reach two carats and stones over three carats reach very high prices.
Tsavorite garnets can be found in Kenya, but also in Tanzania, Madagascar and Quebec.
Tsavorite garnet can be mounted in Tsavorite rings, Tsavorite earrings or Tsavorite necklaces.
Tsavorite garnet can be found in many of Tiffany’s creations where it is one of the emblematic stones or on the “Acte V” bracelet signed Louis Vuitton.
And don’t forget, all stones are fragile! Even the diamond….
To determine the quality of a stone, colour is the most important criterion.
Tsavorite is nothing more than a variety of garnet, and is therefore traditionally associated with the natives of January and the zodiacal sign of Aquarius. It can therefore be offered for the 2nd wedding anniversary.
