Topaz

Topaz is classified as a gemstone and is often used in jewellery.

Its best-known colour is blue, but this is actually the result of irradiation, either natural or man-made.

Its most popular colour remains orange with pink tones: this is the shade of the famous and highly coveted "imperial topaz".

The best-known deposits are in the Ouro Preto region of Brazil.
