Amazonite

Amazonite is an apple-green decorative stone used to make necklace balls and cabochons for jewellery.

Amazonite, a member of the feldspar family, takes its name from a legend told by early explorers of South America, according to which the women of a tribe in northern Brazil offered it to the men of a neighbouring tribe. The region itself was named Amazonia.

It comes mainly from Brazil, Madagascar, India, the USA and Russia.

Amazonite has a hardness of 6.5 on the Mohs scale.
