The revival of Marina B
Created in 1978, Marina B represents another talent of the great Bulgari lineage
Daughter of Constantino Bulgari and granddaughter of the founder: Sotirios Voulgaris, Marina B was able to impose herself in the 1980s and 1990s by mixing her ancestral savoir-faire with her talent.
But before that, she travelled the world for a long time before cameback to Italy to take over the family business: Bulgari.
After the death of her father, Marina took off in 1978 to found her own eponymous house.
Very quickly the brand is a huge success and is exported internationally. Numerous boutiques were opened in the world’s largest cities such as: London, New York, Milan, Tokyo and Geneva.
Marina B conquered the whole world but also the great figures like Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren. The house is then associated with Italian glamour.
At the end of the 1990s, Marina B was sold to a wealthy Saudi then bought by an American investor, before being reborn in the hands of Guy Bedarida.
Although the style of the 80s seems out of place, Marina B knew how to create timeless jewelry.
With its creations rich in color and volume, the house has been able to impose its style in the jewelry world.
She works on jewelry appreciated by the greatest number of people such as long necklaces, large cuffs, iconic chockers, modular jewelry or even dangling earrings.
Marina B innovates in stone cuts with cabochons, suede stones and even its own cut: the Marina B cut, between heart and pear shape. Other notable innovations, the development of jewelry on springs that simplifies their wearing or the appaerance of spheres without visible threads.
The DNA of the brand is characterized by its inspiration from Greek and Italian mythology. Thus, Marina B’s creations are punctuated by geometric lines, diamonds and ever more colorful stones.
Today, Marina B jewelry is still very popular on the vintage market. Especially her famous cabochon chokers from the 80s, which still seem to be in the air. The black color was often used for the contrast. These very popular chokers are extremely difficult to obtain. Indeed, there is a waiting list to get them.
The rebirth of the house:
The house of Marina B had almost ceased its activity in 2002, until 2017 when Guy Bedarida took over the reins by buying it. The Franco-Italian designer, made his training with Mr. Boucheron, place Vendome and continued his career at Van Cleef & Arpels as head designer of the American branch.
The new artistic director and owner continues to seduce his clients with modern creations that still reflect the DNA of Marina B.
Guy Bedarida has the will to reinterpret the emblematic models of the house by giving them a touch of modernity.
The designer has created a collection: Lalli, reflecting the alliance between the DNA of Marina B and modernity. The collection features natural sapphires, emeralds, Paraiba tourmalines and diamonds that contrast with contemporary materials such as black titanium coated with PVD (a special process used for decorative and functional coatings) that reinterprets the onyx used by Marina. This technique makes the jewelry lighter and therefore easier to wear.
